That mean Emotions are one kind of Mental states. If it is Mental states, that means Emotions lies in the Mind. In straight forward, can say that the Mind is the creator of such Mental states, that is Emotions.

As Emotions creates by the Mind, the Mind express such Emotional states through thoughts, feelings, behavioral responses. If you look at thoughts, feelings and behavioral responses, etc., all are also created by the Mind. That means, the Mind is creating Emotions and the same Mind is expressing such Emotions by creating thoughts, feelings, etc., to express them.

So, it is very clear that the Mind is creating Emotions by itself and the same Mind is suffering or getting distracted too. Isn’t it?

Face Emotions in Mindfulness by being aware & observe thoughts, feelings, sensations without any judgement:

As the Mind expresses Emotions through thoughts, feelings, behavioral responses like sensation, etc., let the Mind be aware of all these. The Mind has the ability to be aware as well as to be in the Present Moment due to Mindfulness. Thoughts, feelings, sensation, behavioral responses, etc., all are occurring in the Present Moment. As they are occurring or arising in the Present Moment, let the Mind be aware of them. What is happening in the Mind at this very moment, only be aware of that. That means, let the Mind be aware of itself in the Present Moment of its own activities or movement.

If thoughts are arising in the Mind, be aware that thoughts are arising. If thoughts move, be aware that thoughts are moving. If thoughts are disappearing, be aware that thoughts are disappearing. Aware of the total process from arising to disappearing of thoughts. Be away from judging anything. Only be aware & observe thoughts without any judgement.

The Mind might wander at any moment. Let it be its own way to wander. Only be aware that the Mind is wandering. Once the Mind is aware that it has been away from the Present Moment, let it be aware in the Present Moment. Wherever the Mind goes, only be aware of the movement & existence of the Mind at this Present Moment. If the Mind is aware that feelings are arising. Let feelings arise. Only be aware that feelings are arising. If feeling disappear, only be aware that feelings are disappearing. If sensation arising & noticed in the Mind, only be aware that sensation are arising. If sensation moves & disappear, only be aware that sensation are moving & sensation are disappearing. That is a complete activity whatever noticed in the Mind, only be aware and observe without any judgement.
